Average Salary with a Masters in Entrepreneurship

It is difficult to pin a number on the amount of money you can expect to make as an entrepreneur. This is one of the most stressful and hardest career paths you can choose, but it can also be one of the most rewarding. Some entrepreneurs make just a part-time living and rely on spouse income or a part-time job to supplement what they make as an entrepreneur. Other entrepreneurs make millions of dollars every year. So what’s the average salary you can expect if you take the entrepreneurship route?

Salary Information for Entrepreneurs

According to Simply Hired, entrepreneurs made an average of $111,000 annually. Make sure you take this information with a grain of salt, however, since the salary range for entrepreneurs is so wide. Other sources give different numbers. For example, Indeed reports that entrepreneurs make an average of $76,000 annually, while Payscale.com reports that small business owners make an average of around $60,000 annually and Salary.com reports that the average small business owner brings home $233,600 annually.

While the sky is the limit if you’re an entrepreneur, keep in mind that the opposite is also true. If you start your own business, you could also fail or it may take several years before the business is profitable.

Salary by Industry

The salary you can expect to make as an entrepreneur is closely linked to your industry. For example, Payscale.com reports that someone who owns a childcare facility can make up to $62,909 annually while someone who owns a construction company can make up to $112,456. In some industries, there are also very low start-up costs, while in others, you’ll spend a lot of money upfront, so it will take longer for the business to be profitable. For example, you can be an online entrepreneur or get started with stock market investing for less than $1000, but if you want to start a landscaping service or restaurant, you can expect to spend a lot of money just to get started.

Other Career Paths for Entrepreneur Majors

With a master’s degree in entrepreneurship, you don’t have to start your own business. This type of degree will also qualify you to work in a management position in an existing business or join an existing business as a partner. These may be more attractive options to you, at least until you gain experience in your field, as it gives you the chance to learn about the business world without risking your own savings before you’re reading with a strong business plan.
